KATHRYN M. JASINSKI, EXCEPTIONAL SEAMSTRESS & CO-FOUNDER OF K SISTERS PIEROGI

Kathryn Jasinski (nee Martinkiewicz) “Toots” of Alden, NY, passed away on February 23, 2018, after a brief illness. Kathy was the most loving companion for over 35 years, of Rocky Pisto, owner of Rocky’s Cleaners, of Alden, NY. She was the devoted daughter of Stanley Markiewicz, of Buffalo, NY and the late Adele Markiewicz. Kathy was the ever-loving sister of Karoll (Thaddeus) Kwitek and Karen (Thomas Wozniak) Markiewicz, both of Buffalo, NY. Kathy was also the most cherished aunt of Elizabeth (Jeff Henry) Schneider, of Amherst, NY and Dr. Marcella (Dr. Tim Beals) Woiczik, of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Kathy was an outstanding and renowned seamstress. After graduating from Villa Maria Academy and Buffalo State College, Kathy decided to attend the Warzecha School of Dressmaking. After Kathy and her sisters learned how to sew from an early age, (Their father & mother instructed them) Kathy decided that sewing was her ambition. Her love of sewing enabled her to become the owner/operator of Kathy’s Klothing Korner in Kaisertown for over 25 years. She touched so many lives over the years through her love of sewing. Kathy made countless wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses, prom dresses, christening outfits and thousands of alterations that to the naked eye, could not have seemed possible. This past Winter, Kathy made many warm blankets for many Meals on Wheels recipients that her partner, Rocky, had delivered to. In her most recent years, Kathy had worked at Joann Fabrics, where she had earned the “Silver Scissors” pin numerous times for her outstanding assistance to customers and knowledge of sewing.

Her ambitions did not stop with sewing. Kathy loved to cook and was very proficient at doing so. She shared her love by hostessing family and friend gatherings, where she always made enough food “To feed an Army”. You never left a party empty handed, always with a doggie bag of leftovers to feed your own family for a week! At Christmas and Easter, you left with a homemade placek and pierogi, carefully made with love and wrapped like only Kathy could do.

Kathy’s great love for cooking, did further shine through as one of the (3) original owners (along with sisters Karoll and Karen) of K Sisters Pierogi. Their original goal, starting back in 2005, was to bring the flavors of their grandmother’s pierogi and other delights, into the present world and introduce to all what delicious food came from Poland – and still does. Kathy and her sisters were taught, at an early age, how to cook and bake and this knowledge never left them.

Kathy treated Rocky’s children and grandchildren like they were her own, celebrating every milestone, helping with graduations, weddings and welcoming new babies. She shared stories of her Polish heritage and had a Polish nickname for them all. They always looked forward to a visit to grandpa and Kathy’s house.

Kathy was also an avid gardener. If you were ever at her country home in Alden, you could see the time and love she put into creating incredibly beautiful landscaping. She loved her log cabin home and was happiest with the Sun on her face and the dirt under her fingernails, not to mention the miner’s hat that she wore after sunset, to complete her planting. Springtime was a favorite time with beautiful flowers popping up for yet another season. Her home is where she found her peace and contentment. Kathy also shared her knowledge of horticulture with whomever asked for advice. She truly had a “Green Thumb”.

Kathy’s final passion was her love for Labrador retrievers. The dogs that she and Rocky raised in their years together, were the luckiest dogs on the planet. They had the best meals and the coziest beds. She treated them like they were her children. Their last dog, ruby, passed away the same week as Kathy.

Rocky and Kathy enjoyed 35 loving years together. They took such great care of each other and created so many fond memories for their very grateful families. Kathy will be very deeply missed by so many and will always be loved and remembered for her generosity, love and kindness.

A Celebration of Kathy’s Life will be held by family and friends at a later date. If you care to make any donations in Kathy’s memory, a donation to your local SPCA would be truly appreciated.
